Personal Learning Goal

State a learning goal for the project and explain how personal interest lead to that goal

Based on personal interest, the student develops a clear goal that:

  • States a learning goal
  • Explains the connection(s) between personal interest and the goal 

Questions to Consider/ Ideas:

  • How is it Personally Relevant? Why do you want to do this?  What will you learn?  
  • Write a personal hook to your story.
  • Optional: Global Context: How does it relate to your project? What parts of the global context will you focus on?

Suggested Report Section Titles

  • Introduction
  • Learning Goal

Evidence Artifact Suggestions:

  • Initial Brainstorming/ Mind Maps of Idea Generation
  • SMART Goal- make sure to have all the parts
  • Compass Points
  • Global Context Notes (Optional)

Common Missing Pieces in the Report

  • Make sure this is based on your final project, not what your initial idea was.
  • What makes your project PERSONAL? the experiences, interests, and ideas that make it important and interesting to you
  • Explicitly state your learning goal
  • Explain why your goal is challenging—in particular, why it is challenging for you?

Task Specific Clarification:

  • State a goal for the project, based on personal interests, but this may be limited in depth or accessibility
    • The student states a goal that is unrealistic or shallow which does not have a clear connection to personal interests.
  • Outline a basic and appropriate goal for the project, based on personal interests
    • The student outlines a simple or easily-achievable goal.
  • Define a clear and challenging goal for the project, based on personal interests
    • Based on personal interest, the student develops a clear goal that explains what make the goal personally challenging.
  • Define a clear and highly challenging goal for the project, based on personal interest
    • Based on personal interest, the student develops a clear goal that justifies the goal as highly challenging.
